Runner girl from down under

I am an Australian living in Bangalore for the past 3 years. I started running into work when I lived in Brisbane in the 90s which was a 3km in and 3km home trip - which I would run every day. I only started running longer distances when I moved to London. I was sent to NY for work for 2 weeks and the timing happened to fall over the weekend of the NYC Marathon. I went down to watch the race to see what it was all about and decided at that point that I could run a marathon to.

I was back in London the week after looking for a charity that could get me a place in the London Marathon. It was the 25th Anniversary of the event and it had more than 35,000 competitors. Training for that event took my kilometers from a record of 5km to 28km in 15 weeks. I trained really hard gave up alcohol for 4 months, eat healthy food, but had no really idea about training. I never kept a track of distance, just would go out in the morning and run for 2 hours.

When I moved to India in 2007, I joined up the hash house harriers running group the weekend I arrived. There I met Sunil who talked me into running with Runners for Life. Here I meet a whole bunch of runners who have now become very good mates. It was a little club when I first started - getting about 40 or so people to the regular runs. Then in the past 2 years running has really exploded in Bangalore... There are more runners in Cubbon Park than ever before. I have also started running even longer distances. Next week is my last big race of the year where I plan to finish 75km on Nov 14, 2009.
